The GROOVE Doctors performed at a wedding last week for Katie and Erik at the Vine Hill House in Sebastopol, CA. The venue is the old farm house that has been converted by Dan O’ Connel, a fourth generation owner of the nearby apple orchard and vineyards. Dan has created a beautiful atmosphere at his venue which hosts 50 wedding receptions a year. In addition to the receptions, Dan still runs the apple orchard and vineyards, where he grows Pinot Noir grapes that is made into wine at the winery on site.

The setting at the Vine Hill house is incredible. Guests look out over a sea of vineyards and the dance floor is set in a grove of redwood trees. Dan has added nice mood lighting above the dance floor, which is circular in shape. This circular shape lets all the guests see each other which really adds to feeling part of a celebration, perfect for wedding receptions. The dance floor was literally packed from the first song to the last over the three hours the GROOVE Doctors played.

On top of being a beautiful setting, Dan is an absolute pleasure to work with. He is organized, friendly, stays calm and rolls with the punches, all essential items when dealing with wedding receptions (which have a tendency to get off schedule, often because the bride & groom change their mind at the last minute or the caterer is having a difficult time keeping up). Speaking of caterers, Dan has a list of 10 preferred caters and after asking the bride and groom some questions, recommends two or three and let’s the bride and groom interview them and work out their own deal for catering and beverages.
